Rick Riordan Section coming soon!

As a huge fan of Rick Riordan, and reader of pretty much all of his books, I am happy to announce that we will be adding a section dedicated to only his books. I know that I already reviewed The Titan’s Curse, but all of his books deserve some conversation. If you’d like you can view his website right here . Thank you for your support as always and please keep reading! Hoping to send you some fang-worthy books soon!

Review of Divergent by Veronica Roth

This book was good at first and with all of the hype about it, I really wanted to give it a good rating. It had a believably flawed main character and a good setup. As soon as she gets to the faction, though, things get a little out of control. After the first fight scene I had to put it down. You may like it more if you like gory, suspenseful, kind of sad thrillers, this book is for you. If not, I warned you. (Especially for younger viewers.

Review of Magyk by Angie Sage

Magyk is the first book in the Septimus Heap trilogy. It’s tied for my favorite with Darke (book 5) and Syren (book 4). The characters are believable and the plot never runs dry.  It’s just one of those fantastic books. I know it’s not a short read, but it’s a good one nonetheless and you should give it a go. If you like it, there are 6 more books in the series: Flyte, Physik, Queste, Syren, Darke, and Fyre. Also there’s a spinoff series called Pathfinder. Magyk follows Jenna Heap, her brother Nicko, her father Silas, Madame Marcia Overstrand, her great aunt Zelda, and Boy 412. I can’t say much about the plot without giving things away, but the Supreme Custodian is ruling for DomDaniel, who is undoubtedly evil and the Heaps with Madame Overstrand are going to stop them. But who is Boy 412? And where is Septimus Heap. And is Jenna really who she thinks she is? This is one of my favorite books ever, so let me know in the comments if you liked it.

Welcome to Book Viper

On this blog, I will catalogue the best and worst reads of the week. It might eventually also include Viper’s Verse, where I will include the best poetry and poets and some of my own poems. I will start out with many reviews to get my blog going, then settle to 2-3 per week.  Just a note on my rating system: Fangs= Stars, just for Book Vipers.

Thank you for reading this far.

Review of Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan

Yes, I know that this is book 3, but I just read this one, so I am writing this while it’s fresh. Percy is not one of my favorite protagonists, but Rick Riordan really brings him to life. As a son of Poseidon, he was never supposed to have been born. His father had signed a treaty with Zeus and Hades not to have any more children with mortal women. Zeus had already broken the oath when he sired Thalia, who eventually got turned into a tree to keep from being killed. She was pulled out of the tree in the last book… but you should probably just read that one. Anyway, Percy finds himself on a quest, yet again. The only drawback I find in this book is at the end. I’m not sure if anyone else thinks like this and I’m going to try not to give anything away, but I really don’t like Mr. Blowfish and when his mom tells him to go after *bleep*. (Bleeped out so you can’t know ending.) Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I’m really beginning to like Percy as a character. Can’t wait to read next book.

Review of Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

I really enjoyed this read because it combined my favorite type of heroine and my favorite type of genre. Emily Crane moves to San Francisco with her family because of their goal of living in all fifty states. She finds that the apartment above hers holds another puzzler, James Lee. Together they solve the mystery of Book Scavenger and its creator, unraveling his attempted murder in the process. The characters are very real and the story is gripping. It does drag a bit towards the end in the school scenes, but overall, this book is fantastic.
